Aaron Simpson Defeats Tom Lawlor

Tom Lawlor is the UFC's alleged funny man. I don't find him very amusing. It's unclear how many people like his shtick. One thing's for sure, Tom certainly wasn't laughing when the decision was announced.

It’s amazing that Lawlor didn’t finish this fight in the first round. He hit Aaron Simpson with a bunch of damaging shots. The fact that Aaron gutted it out to win the fight is amazing. That dude has an uncrackable chin. Of course, that’s how it looked against Tom Lawlor. Against Anderson Silva, he’d be lucky to make it to the second round, let alone the third.

In the third round of this fight, Aaron showed what a great wrestler he is. It’s a shame he couldn’t put it to good use any earlier. He must have underestimated what power Lawlor had.

You can’t complain about the decision here. Tom clearly won the first round. The second round could have gone either way, as neither man took much damage. The third round showed Aaron taking control of the fight, even though he didn’t really hurt Tom.

So, you could make a case that not all rounds should be scored 10-9. Maybe Tom should have gotten 10-8 for the first round. Also, we should consider the use of half points. You could give Tom 10-8.5 for the first round and Aaron 10-9.5 for the other two. The scoring would better reflect who did more damage, as opposed to only having a round winner and loser.

Next Fight: Evan Dunham vs. Efrain Escudero
