Start here: A very excited Bobby Green gets a little reckless...
About the Show Affliction’s second show was a step up from their first one. This was partially due to the fights being more entertaining. Production-wise there were a number of things done better:- The fighter roll call was less dynamic but took less time than their first one. I’m all for anything that gets it down from a 4 hour run time. -No musical or dance performances. - Way more specific fighter info: Reach now included and 3 keys to victory for each fighter based on their strengths and weaknesses of his opponent - Better broadcast team: Tito gets too excited in the post-fight interviews but he feels comfortable calling the action in the ring. The other two worked well in their roles. The commentating focused much more on the action inside the ring. - Striking stats included: Hits, misses and percentages. Great stuff. It must be an influence from Golden Boy promotions. - Smaller window display for the round time. - The translator for the Russians (particularly in the interview with the M-1 guys) was fast as lightning. Definitely the best interpreter on any MMA broadcast. There are some things that still need work. Tito is a bad choice for the post-fight interview. And there’s also a guy backstage with a raspy voice that looks like he’s on crack. And there’s a big problem with the ring in that when you reset the fighters they lose the rhythm they were in. If you can put up with watching the ring in PRIDE and/or these two Affliction shows then you’ll manage until they invent a wacky non-UFC fighting area. This show gave me hope for the Affliction brand. They’re looking to create a worth rival to the UFC. Having Golden Boy and Donald Trump will help to give them legitimacy. They should be able to continue their success, provided of course they can get away with paying guys like Arlovski 1.5 million dollars to take a swan dive. Somewhere out there Dana is thanking himself for not meeting his asking price.
