Alessio Sakara Defeats James Irvin

One of the first things Joe Rogan mentioned was his concern over the amount of weight James Irvin had to cut. It’s too bad they didn’t show any footage of the weigh-in. Then again, anorexia is not something they want to promote, so it’s probably for the best.

It’s too bad we never got to see how poorly Irvin could have done. Instead, the fight was stopped because of a nicely placed knuckle to the eyeball. It’s not the most disappointing finish we’ve seen in the UFC. In fact, Alessio Sakara deserves credit for throwing such a devastating punch. It was a real blink-and-you’ll miss it moment.

Yes, there are a lot of bad vision jokes to be made. But out of consideration for James Irvin, we’ll press on as professionals. After all, James probably keeps an eye out for cheap jokes.

Although, there really isn’t much more to say. It’s clear that Sakara is a good striker. However he only got a few minutes to put his skills on display. Getting a weird stoppage over a de-hydrated mid-carder doesn’t do much for him.

There are still a lot of questions about Sakara’s ground game. Those will most likely be answered in his next fight. At least he’s guaranteed to get another shot in this company.

Irvin still has a job because he’s never involved in a boring fight. Now, he’s got to be close to termination. Luckily, he seems to be one of Dana’s Favored Sons, which means he’ll got one more chance – probably on the prelims of a free TV show.
