Amir Sadollah vs. Johny Hendricks

Amir Sadollah has managed to find time away from his job as a UFC spokesperson to fit in an actual fight. This guy is truly multi-talented. If he can win a match by way of something other than an arm bar, he’ll be a freaking renaissance man.

Johny Hendricks is largely unknown to the casual MMA audience. It seems he’s being fed to one of the UFC’s homegrown talents. The matchmakers feel that Amir needs to be protected as much as previous Ultimate Fighter winner Forrest Griffin. You gotta keep those likeable guys winning for as long as possible.

In this case, there’s no criticism to be levied at the UFC for putting this match together. Amir has very limited pro-MMA experience. We can hope that he learned a lot from his mentor (the afore-mentioned Forrest Griffin) during his time on the Ultimate Fighter 7. Still, this ridiculously long layoff has got to hurt him. Even though he’s had plenty of training time, there’s still no substitute for live octagon experience. It’s a good thing this is Johny’s UFC debut.

On the countdown show, a prophecy was foretold that the submission guy (Amir) and the wrestler (Johny) would stand up and brawl. If that does happen, expect Amir to get the win. He showed in his entertaining fight with Matt Brown that Amir loves a good scrap. He seemed to enjoy the mutual damage being distributed. Normally, I would ask if this reminds you of someone, but the analogy is pretty damn obvious here.

So, we’ll skip the unnecessary rhetoric and just say we hope for a Forrest and Amir victory celebration in the octagon. That’ll be useful, as it will give Amir a chance to return the cup he borrowed from Forrest.
