Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin
Anderson Silva defeats Forrest Griffin by KO at UFC 101
You have to feel bad for Forrest Griffin. This was his comeback fight after losing his title to Rashad Evans. The UFC figured that Forrest had nothing to lose. There’s no way that he could look any worse than Thales Leites, right? Well, never underestimate a pissed off Anderson Silva. And it’s about damn time Silva got angry. I thought he was going to butcher Leites after getting a non-finish in the Cote fight. However it seems that Silva needs a challenge to be motivated. It’s understandable; the dude has already crafted his MMA legacy. He’s already looking ahead to his post-UFC career. Apparently, his lifelong dream is a boxing match with Roy Jones Jr. At this point, a fight on the moon would be the only thing that could give Silva a challenge. Here on earth, there’s not much left for the guy. For those who haven’t seen this match, it is just as bad as people say it is. Forrest looked terrible. He was completely confused as to how to attack Silva. The speed deficit proved to be the most damning factor. Anderson looked as confident as he ever has. Before Silva threw the last punch, he literally put his hands by his sides. He knew Forrest wouldn’t be able to connect. Sure enough, Silva deftly sidestepped the attack and bonked Forrest on the head. Griffin collapsed in a heap. It was as if he was selling the fact that he was done. Like I said, there’s not much left for Anderson Silva in the world of MMA. People are still clamoring for the GSP fight. Taking on someone with great speed might prove interesting to him. There’s also Dan Henderson, who is hungry to avenge the loss he suffered to Anderson. At least Dan won a single round against the middleweight champion. As for Forrest, well, he’s still got a lot of fans. He’s going to need a few more losses before being close to the chopping block. He’s always best in the underdog role, right? Oh well. Anderson may have won the fight, but Forrest finished 1st in the 100m dash.
