Anthony Johnson vs. Luigi Fioravanti
Anthony Johnson is one of the UFC’s rising stars in the welterweight division. He’s already had a few 5-star knockouts in his short UFC career. The destruction of Tommy Speer (which lasted less than a minute and sent him packing from the UFC) is still stuck in my mind as one of my favorite moments of the past couple years. Most recently he achieved his redemption from an eye-poke loss with a wicked head kick over Kevin Burns. Luigi Fioravanti on the other hand, has just stuck around. He’s had a couple of decent wins as well as a few losses. It’s fairly obvious what the UFC has planned here. In theory, Luigi may have the experience edge necessary to upset the hot-blooded upstart. But the likely outcome is another impressive victory for Johnson. Anthony may not get the highlight reel KO he’s used to getting but he should be able to win the fight. He showed in his two battles with Burns that he’s capable of controlling the match with his wrestling if he gets tired of striking. Luigi Fioravanti doesn’t quite have the tools to finish Johnson from any position. The free shows are where the young guns put on star-making performances and on this night I’d expect nothing less from a fighter like Johnson. Back to the UFN 17 Fight-Card
