Bobby Lashley - Superstar in Progress pt. 2

What did matter is Bobby Lashley’s inability to finish the over-sized light heavyweight. For those who didn’t watch the fight on the “March Badness” card (no, I didn’t make that name up), you didn’t really miss much. Outside of a couple of moments Bobby did his best Josh Koscheck impression and laid on top of Jason for three full rounds.

To give Lashley credit, he was trying to stay busy. However Jason Guida’s ground game was good enough to keep him out of danger for the whole fight. (It should also be noted that the ropes saved Guida on at least one occasion. It was very amusing seeing him bounce in mid air as he clinged to the rope for dear life. It’s a shame the ref didn’t get in there sooner but he was probably fixing his bow tie.)

Jason Guida did get a guillotine in the third round that looked fairly tight. All that showed is Lashley is strong enough to power out of some tough spots. That’s a good thing to do when you don’t have the experience to avoid bad situations in the first place.

If you wanted to look at this from the best possible angle, from Bobby Lashley’s view at least, you’d say he probably would have gotten a stoppage win if they were in a cage. ( The problem of having MMA in a ring is a huge issue in and of itself. I covered it in my thoughts on Affliction: Banned and briefly in my review of Affliction: Day of Reckoning.)

What’s the pessimistic take on this? Bobby’s not ready for the UFC…yet. His athleticism alone can get him farther than most people with his skill set. Not everybody takes to a new challenge like Brock Lesnar.

But the real key difference? Confidence.
