Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir

Brock Lesnar defeats Frank Mir
by TKO at UFC 100

Well, here comes the pain…to the Budweiser executives.

That’s what we can take away from this fight. It might be okay to beat a man senseless and trash talk him while he’s still hurt. You can snarl and flip off the fans. But for the Love of God don’t diss the sponsors!

As for the fight itself, Brock Lesnar got on top of Frank Mir and pounded him out. Apparently, the match was rather boring, so we won’t waste time talking about it.

This was another case where the loser should reconsider his pre-fight strategy. You really, really shouldn’t piss off Brock Lesnar. In a lot of other fights, there’s lots of trash talk that gets thrown out the window at the night of the fight. Even Matt Serra and Matt Hughes put their blood-feud aside to get a cute photo-op at the end of their match.

Lesnar on the other-hand, never forgives – or forgets.

Of course he did forget to relax after he won the match. We’ve never seen someone so darn angry AFTER winning a fight so decisively. He has a strong symbiotic relationship with the fans. If he had been nice after the match ended, he may have gotten a more positive response.

It’s already clear that he’s imported his WWE-persona to the UFC. While most would suggest toning it down just a touch, he seems content to play the heel. Honestly, a true villain could be what this company needs. After all, the departure of Tito Ortiz has left an opening for a perennial antagonizer. Lesnar is going to be winning fights now, which makes him that much more annoying. Forrest Griffin said it best – there’s nothing worse than a guy that talks tough and backs it up.

The only problem is that there may not be a challenger equal to the task. Shane Carwin is the only man with enough size and wrestling skill to put Lesnar out of his comfort zone. Beyond that, Dana may have to bend to the wills of that Russian Guy, in order to get him into the UFC.
