Cain Velasquez Defeats Ben Rothwell
This is exactly the kind of fight we've come to expect from Cain Velasquez. He unleashed a variety of strikes. He took his opponent down with ease. More importantly, he stayed busy when in top position. And then, after dominating his opponent for the whole fight, he got upset with how poorly he did. Sigh. In all fairness, the only thing this fight lacked was a spectacular finish. Indeed, a lot of people complained that the match was stopped prematurely. It's true that Ben Rothwell was in the process of getting up when Anxious Steve decided to call it off. But you have to ask yourself – what was Ben getting up for? He would have just kept getting punched. There's only so long you can watch someone get pummeled before you start feeling guilty about enjoying it. All MMA fans have a conscience, right? Regardless, you have to be impressed with the heart of Big Ben. He's not one of those fighters that looks for a way out of a fight. He just needs to realize that he wasn't going to beat Cain Velasquez. He shouldn't feel bad. Nobody in the UFC has even won a round against Cain. The only knock on Velasquez is his lack of punching power. Of course, that criticism would go out the window if he was fighting smaller guys. So, it's quite problematic that Brock Lesnar, the heavyweight champion, has a head like a cinder block. Cain still has a chance (to what degree is another matter) of beating Lesnar. However Cain will need to rely on that legendary cardio of his. The only way he'll be able to beat Brock is if he pressures him for five long rounds.
