Chuck Liddell vs. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua
Chuck Liddell has had lots of KO’s, earned lots of money and banged lots of babes. There’s really not much more for him to do, other than fight. That must be what keeps him going. That’s important to note because if he didn’t have that determination to win he’d be kicked out of the UFC in a hurry. In fact, even with his legendary reputation he’s still considered to be one or two losses away from retirement. However it’s doubtful that Chuck is as broken-down as people think he is. It’s true that he got knocked out in his last fight. That doesn't matter much because he looked a hell of a lot better against Rashad Evans than Shogun has in his two UFC outings…which isn't saying much. Shogun OUGHT to be considered a “can’t miss” prospect right now. Instead, he’s looked like a “can’t hit to save his life” kind of fighter. What that means is - he ought to have decimated Mark Coleman. When watching the fight you couldn’t tell which guy was in his mid-40s. Luckily for Shogun he’s got one more chance at redemption. This fight is hard to call because both men are coming off of fairly poor performances. Given the age difference Shogun ought to be the favorite. However until I see more from him I’m going to call this a coin-flip pick. You need a great opponent to bring out your own inner greatness. Yes, that’s exactly the kind of self-help jargon Rua should internalize right now. Given Chuck’s aggressive style, he could be the perfect opponent to bring out the Shogun we saw in PRIDE. They both like to stand and bang, which means the one thing we’re certain of (hopefully) is the fact that this will be an exciting fight.
