George Sotiropolous Defeats Joe Stevenson

In the first round we saw effective guard passing from George Sotiropolous. It took him a while to get mount. Still, Joe Stevenson was always on the defensive, which means he was losing the fight. George threatened with several submissions.

In the second round, Joe finally got top position. However unlike George, he was not able to get any offense going. Instead, George used the rubber guard to put Joe into an omaplata. It just showed how George had an answer for everything Joe did.

George was definitely the better striker. He was great at finding angles to punch from. Joe looked slow by comparison. He always took a swing at where George was 10 seconds ago.

As it turns out, Joe was actually the weaker of the two. Or it could be that George has way superior technique. Maybe it was both. Either way, Joe should spend less time smiling and more time beating up his opponent.

Did anyone else see how euphoric Joe was during the walk-in? He must have forgot he was going into a cage fight.

As for George’s entrance, he got a crazy pop from the home crowd. It was later eclipsed by the reaction given after the decision was announced. Australia may have dethroned Montreal as the hottest UFC crowd ever – and that’s saying a lot.

On a side note, it’s crazy how Greg Jackson is able to maintain his rosy disposition throughout a match. In this case, his fighter was losing. Plus, the crowd was firmly behind the opposition. But darn it, Greg will find a way to look on the bright side.
