George Sotiropoulos vs. George Roop

George Sotiropoulos defeats George Roop
by kimura at UFC 101

This was a very entertaining bout. Sadly, it followed the emotional letdown of Silva/Griffin and the 4 rounds of Penn/Florian. Still, this fight DID in fact air, no matter what anyone else tells you.

Ultimately, George Sotiropoulos proved to be much better at submissions than George Roop. Roop is tough and scrappy, just like Frank Mir said. However you can only get so far in the UFC without having refined technical skills. Roop would be well served to go to the lightweight division in the WEC. It might be better than getting his ego bludgeoned in the UFC.

George Sotiropoulos looked fairly promising as a welterweight on the Ultimate Fighter 6. It seems like he’ll be able to utilize his full potential as a lightweight. Surely Dana White was impressed by the aggressiveness he displayed. If you follow Kenny Florian’s model, you gotta finish fights at 155. Of course, you still have to wait three years for a title shot, but that’s another story.
