Gray Maynard vs. Jim Miller
Gray Maynard is a very strong lightweight. He uses his wrestling with smothering success. His opponents spend a lot of time on their respective backs wishing they could be standing and doing stuff. Gray doesn’t usually produce entertaining fights but he’s good at what he does. His striking is decent but it’s mostly there for show. Jim Miller put on a good show at his last UFC outing when he out-hustled a tired Matt Wiman. That was considered quite an upset because Wiman was coming off a big win over Thiago Tavares. Now Jim Miller finds himself in the underdog position yet again. If he wins this fight he’ll be considered a modest threat in the lightweight division. It would be very surprising to see him pull out a victory in this fight unless he can wear out his opponent. The problem with fighting Maynard is you spend a lot of energy fighting his takedowns. Since Miller doesn’t have top-flight submission skills (or so I assume) he’ll have a tough time getting control of one of Maynard’s limbs because of how strong he is. Maynard will probably have a hard time finishing Jim Miller but he should get the win. If he executes a conservative game plan he won’t have much trouble coasting to a decision.
