Jim Miller Defeats Mark Bocek

Mark Bocek was advertised as having better submission skills than Jim Miller. While no one is going to argue that point, you also have to acknowledge the strength of Jim Miller.

In the first round, Bocek was able to get top position. He must have been surprised when his arm got wrenched behind his back. Jim wasn’t in a great position to apply a kimura. He did so through sheer brute force. Clearly, you don’t want to sleep on Jim Miller, in any position. It’s amazing Bocek didn’t tap to that hold.

It was equally surprising that Bocek didn’t get a submission in the second round. He decided that there was no more taking his opponent lightly. Mark managed to get Jim’s back, with his legs wrapped around the body AND one of the arms.

Jim must have felt he was involved in a new kinky form of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Luckily it was all foreplay because Bocek never finished…the submission hold, that is.

The third round could have gone either way. I thought Bocek got more control on the ground. But there was a lot of action going both ways. It was an exciting bout in which both fighters got to shine. Neither one is in a position to complain about the decision. The same goes for the fans, but they were in a mood to complain tonight.
