Joe Stevenson vs. Spencer Fisher
Joe Stevenson has resigned himself to the fact that he’s not a great striker. In his battle with Nate Diaz, he used his strength to his advantage. He managed to control his skinnier opponent by grabbing a hold of him, Clay Guida-style. It wasn’t the most entertaining fight, but Joe was certainly happy to get the win. Look for him to use the same strategy against Spencer Fisher. Fisher is definitely more of a stand-up enthusiast. His wars with Sam Stout are now legendary. Spencer will try to avoid that ground game nonsense, much to the chagrin of his opponent. Fisher has decent takedown defense, while Joe has great wrestling. Therefore, Fisher will spend at least some of the fight on his back. He’ll have to take risks to get back to his feet. It’s true that Joe is good with submissions. However, losing by decision is a greater threat to Spencer. Joe Stevenson is the favorite to win this fight. He’ll be able to exchange with Spencer on the feet. Although, Joe will want to avoid a slugfest. Neither guy has one-punch knockout power. At some point, Joe will find a way to get Spencer to the ground. Just the thought of defending the takedown will be enough to keep Fisher distracted for the entire fight. If Greg Jackson is still coaching Joe, he will give him a good plan to mix up his offense. It should be a good decision victory for Joe.
