Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago

Jon Fitch defeats Paulo Thiago
by unanimous decision at UFC 100

After all the drama of the main event, Joe Rogan had to remind fans to stick around for this match. The UFC felt so bad about sidelining Fitch’s career that they gave him the real main event slot? Now that’s what I call apologizing.

Truth be told, this bout really should have gone on in the first half of the show where it belonged. Jon Fitch is a great fighter but he doesn’t guarantee excitement. Paulo Thiago presented a challenge to Fitch, but he basically got outworked.

In round 1, Paulo hung on to a guillotine for way too long. If he had watched Jon’s previous fights he’d have realized that you can’t make Fitch tap. Not even GSP could finish him. Georges made the wise choice in not even trying for a submission.

Sadly, Paulo Thiago doesn’t have much more than his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu background. I guess that KO of Koscheck was a bit of fluke. Oh well. At least it was a great opponent to use your luck on.

As for Fitch, he’s got a future with the company. But, not many are going to be clamoring for him to get another title shot as long as St. Pierre is the champion.
