Krzysztof Soszynski Defeats Stephan Bonnar

These two just couldn’t get along. Krzysztof Soszynski stormed Stephan Bonnar in the first few seconds of the match, even though Stephan was expecting a touch of hands. At least, Bonnar wasn’t expecting a barrage of punches. It wasn’t an appropriate start to an MMA match.

Later on, there was a poke to the eye from Bonnar. Although, he certainly played it like there wasn’t one. Then, there was a low kick delivered from Bonnar. So, after all these minor infractions, Krzysztof thought, “Screw it, I’m just gonna head butt him.” After all, you have to find new ways to surprise your opponent.

It’s a damn shame their heads did collide, as the fight was starting to get interesting. In the opening round, Stephan seemed overwhelmed. Krzysztof was definitely the stronger of the two. In the second round, Stephan unloaded a lot more strikes. He finally got it in his head that he was the more technical of the two.

Sadly, all this fight analysis amounted to nothing. The referee was asked if it was a punch or a head butt that caused the cut. He replied that it was totally a punch. At this point, Joe Rogan promptly said that it was obviously the head butt that caused the cut. We were then treated to several replays that proved his point. It’s too bad the ref was checking out the ring girls, or…something other than the match.

Bonnar was pissed off (and rightly so) at the referee for giving him a loss. This incident will continue the momentum of having instant replay used in the UFC. Then again, it was already used in the Matt Hamill vs. Jon Jones fight. I guess you can only use instant replay on certain continents.
