Kurt Pellegrino vs. Josh Neer

Kurt Pellegrino defeats Josh Neer
by unanimous decision at UFC 101

This proved to be a modest win for Kurt Pellegrino. He spent most of the match on top of his opponent. In other words, all the judges thought he was totally winning the fight. Whether or not that’s great judging criteria is another matter entirely. Still, he should be given credit for staying busy enough to avoid getting stood up.

As for Josh Neer, he did a good job of staying active on the bottom. Kurt was never able to do a heck of a lot of damage. In fact, you could argue that the ref was very lenient towards Kurt. Obviously, Neer thought the fight should have been stood up on more than one occasion.

Neer tried to stay busy on the feet, but his aggression usually resulted in him getting put on his back. He just didn’t have the answer for Kurt’s wrestling. That proved to be the story for most of the fight.

However in the last minute of the fight Neer had a very advantageous position. He decided to nail Kurt with a barrage of elbows to the side of the head. Kurt walked away with a big cut on his forehead. Since he got the victory, he probably didn’t mind having to bleed a little bit. Given Neer was down on the scorecards, he probably should have gone for a guillotine instead.
