Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva:
Both Undefeated, For Now

Both Lyoto Machida and Thiago Silva, two undefeated fighters, could cause major trouble if put against one of the top light heavyweights in the UFC. The problem is that neither of them is all that marketable at this point in time.

So, what does the UFC do?

Pit them against each other so only one shit disturber can make their way into the top 5. Dana probably wants Thiago Silva to win because he’s been a lot better at finishing fights. Machida has developed this dreadful aura about him due to his methodical fighting-style. You know he can win a fight but he’ll make his opponent look like crap in the process.

Silva has promised to make this an exciting fight. Unfortunately for him that could prove deadly going against a counter-puncher like Lyoto. Having said that, if Silva can carefully work his way into bullying Machida around he may have some success. Lyoto is used to things going his way.

Somehow, Silva has to find a way to take his opponent out his game plan. Since they’re both great on the ground, a slugfest may be the way to go, seeing as how Silva is better at delivering knockouts. It’s hard to predict a winner here because we’ve never seen either of these two lose.

Even though I’m basically flipping a coin here I’ll go with the unpopular pick and say Machida wins by decision at UFC 94. I’ll also predict that the winner will get a title shot before Keith Jardine does – that poor guy has no luck at all.
