Matt Brown vs. Pete Sell
Matt Brown has proven he’s not just good at chewing tobacco. He showed great submission skills when he submitted his last opponent with a triangle after getting slammed to the mat. He’s got gutsy stand-up but it’s certainly not the most technical. Conventional wisdom dictates he’ll never make it into the top 10 of his weight class. However UFC fans said the same thing about Forrest Griffin. So, it’s best not to make bold predictions about a post-TUF fighter’s career. Speaking of which, Pete Sell has been struggling to maintain employment with the UFC ever since his stint on season 4 of the Ultimate Fighter. He’s had just as many wins in the UFC as Matt Brown and he’s been around for a lot longer. He can be labeled a “brawler” much like his opponent only without the submission skills. Luckily for him Brown isn’t too likely to be the one to exploit his weakness on the ground. This should be a very exciting stand-up war, which is the reason it’s being featured on the main card for UFC 96. You have to love the UFC for putting on at least one of these fights every show. These two better not spoil it by turning into a grappling contest. As for a winner, I’d say go with the guy who has yet to be finished inside the octagon. I’m just not sold on Pete Sell being anything more than low-end gatekeeper. At the very least, this is a good opportunity for him to prove himself worthy. As for Brown, win or lose he’s still done more in the UFC than season 7 rival Amir Sadollah - and Amir’s the guy that won the show. Next Fight: Hamill vs. Munoz
