Matt Hamill Soundly Defeats Jon Jones

Damn. So much for Matt Hamill being a powerhouse wrestler. On this night, he looked helpless against Jon Jones.

It was amazing how much control Jones had once he got Hamill to the ground. He got full mount fairly easily and never let up. Unfortunately, he also threw in a couple of illegal elbows at the end of his flurry. He must have gotten tired of throwing conventional elbows.

Had the fight been stopped sooner, which it certainly could have, Jones would have gotten the victory. It’s tempting to say he earned it. However you haven’t received any kind of a victory in the UFC until the ref steps in. It’s like when someone is “winning” the fight up until he gets caught in a submission. Said person was never winning anything, that’s why he doesn’t get any official credit for his efforts.

Nobody really gained anything from this fight. The winner looked like a loser and vice versa. Normally, a rematch would seem like a good idea. Then again, it wouldn’t sell very well because Jones already decimated Hamill. Like it or not, Jones is the one who needs to move on to bigger things.
