Matt Hamill vs. Mark Munoz

It’s nice to see the UFC giving Matt Hamill a showcase fight after feeding him to Franklin a while back.

Hamill’s always shown a lot of heart but seldom much skill, up until his most recent fight. He still has a problem keeping his hands up. The most baffling thing about Hamill is his unwillingness to utilize his wrestling skills. He seems hell-bent on proving his striking regardless of how he matches up with his opponent.

Luckily for Matt he’ll get the chance to have some fun in this fight. These poor WEC guys usually don’t do so well (save Steve Cantwell) in the UFC. The fact that Mark Munoz’s only had five pro fights shows that he’s not ready for someone like Hamill. He better be ready to move the hell out of the way of his power punches.

You need to be a sound counter-puncher (Rich Franklin seems like a good example) to derail the locomotive that is Hamill. Michael Bisping had to back peddle like crazy to steal a split-decision over Hamill.

If Munoz can pull of the win here it’ll be a huge upset. However the most likely outcome is a stoppage win at UFC 96 for the only deaf fighter in UFC history.
