Drew McFedries vs. Xavier Foupa-Pokam

This match-up is destined to be an exciting stand-up war. At least, it damn well better be. It’d be a shame to see two great strikers try and test out their ground skills.

Drew McFedries has displayed a terrible weakness for submissions throughout his UFC career. He must love the fact that he gets to face another pure striker. While he’s had his share of wins in the octagon, Drew has never seemed like a potential title challenger. While that is mostly due to his 1-dimensional status as a fighter, he’s also shown an overall lack of refinement. That’s alright; people have a craving for fast food fighting. There’s no need for that pesky technique business.

Despite losing to Denis Kang in his UFC debut, Professor X managed to put on a good show. He’s basically a smaller version of Cheick Kongo – he’s tall, black, French and loses fights when put on his back. Much like the aforementioned Kongo, X is a very explosive fighter. During the precious minutes he had standing, he managed to hit Kang with a variety of strikes.

Luckily for both men, this fight is not likely to take place in the location where they’re both uncomfortable. Therefore, this fight should be just as satisfying as a McDonald’s cheeseburger.
