Mirko Cro Cop Defeats Anthony Perosh

This was exactly what people wanted to see from Mirko Cro Cop. In the future, they should keep feeding him underweight fighters who only get two days notice. You could tell Mirko was glad to be in there against someone he knew he could beat.

During the fight, Cro Cop showed no signs of slowing down. He’s obviously work a lot on his cardio. More than anything, he’s been training with tougher sparring partners. Going through hell in the gym makes you more confident in the octagon. He was stalking like the old Cro Cop we saw in PRIDE.

It was not surprising to see great striking from Cro Cop, particularly against a jiu-jitsu guy. However it was amazing to see how his sprawl had improved. To further his chances of staying vertical, he opted to use a lot more punches than kicks. It was a good strategy, as Perosh didn’t get one successful takedown.

Late in the second round, Perosh suffered a nasty cut. The doctor said, “There’s a hole in his head”. To which Herb Dean said to Perosh, “Well, do you want to chicken out of the fight?” Of course Perosh didn’t want to seem like a coward. The poor guy knew he wasn’t going to win the match. The doctor should have used his judgment and stopped the fight. I guess he wanted to see if the cut could get any bigger.

After the fight, we were treated to a shot of Randy Couture and his new “sparring partner”. Now we know his secret to staying young – get a fresh busty blonde before each fight. It’s no wonder Chuck Liddell is making a comeback this year.

Next Fight: Ryan Bader vs. Keith Jardine
