MMA News 2008
MMA News from the Past. Research my old opinions about fighters, organizations, scandals and other happenings. What did I think the impact of a steroid conviction or legal battle on a fighter’s career would be? Did the competing promotion’s succeed or die a quick and painful death? What actually happened as a result of that fighter signed to or released from the UFC?
EliteXC Shuts Down: On October 21, 2008, after less than two years, ProElite Inc., parent company for the mma promotion EliteXC, has bled too much cash, precisely as Dana White predicted months ago... Despite partnerships with Showtime and then CBS, the controversial 'Kimbo Slice' vs. Seth Petruzelli fight card, is rumoured to have been the last.
Couture vs. Lesnar:
From the perspective of the company, why does Brock Lesnar get a UFC title shot after just 1 win? And who really is going to win, Couture or Lesnar?
Rampage’s Rampage:
Is Rampage buying his way out of trouble? The consequences of his ‘little issue’ don’t seem to match up to the damage of probably causing a miscarriage and definitely causing lots of property damage. News Update
Affliction - Part 3:
These Affliction fights came at a high price. Will it pay off for the fledgling promotion? And by the way, how can I follow Affliction fighters if I don’t know when I’ll see them again? News Update
Affliction - Part 2:
Affliction opens with Megadeath. Having the fighters come out as they did in Pride was neat, but a mini-Megadeath concert mid-show just drags the event pacing down.
Affliction - Part 1:
Why did Affliction chose a ring instead of a cage? Those ropes make it too easy for the fighter underneath to avoid damage and cause too many stoppages.
