MMA News & Views

Looking for MMA news? Want to know the likely impact of a steroid conviction or legal battle on a fighter’s career? Or the implications of a competing promotion’s birth or death? Or the ramifications of a new fighter signed to or released from the UFC?

This is the place for opinions and conclusions about current UFC & MMA news:

Brock Lesnar will fight in 2010: The MMA universe is relieved to hear that Brock Lesnar's bout with diverticulitis was not career-threatening. Though, he'll have to adjust to a new green-friendly diet. Brock will defend his heavyweight title some time this summer.

The UFC Comes to Vancouver: After a lengthy process that rivaled the O.J. Simpson murder case, Vancouver has decided to legalize MMA. Now, the UFC can give our dear city new life. Look for UFC 115 to be held on June 12 from GM Place.

The UFC Releases Junie Browning: After being brought in to a hospital, as a result of an attempted pill-related suicide, Junie decided to threaten and assault various staff members.

Roger Huerta Not Done Fighting: "El Matador" has stated that he has an interest in continuing his UFC career. However he is not rumored to be on any upcoming shows. We can hope he'll get tired of movies quicker than Rampage does.

Cro Cop and Rampage Retire: At least, that's how it looks right now. There's a slight chance that Mirko will finish off the rest of his UFC contract. As for Rampage, he may get tired of filming movies. Look for him as B.A. Baracus in the upcoming A-Team movie.

UFC 100 Thoughts - Mark Coleman and Brock Lesnar: Ever since UFC 100 went down, it has become the subject of much discussion. So, we'll start by talking about the implications of Mark Coleman's victory at said event. Then, we'll move on to how the UFC will deal with their unstoppable juggernaut - Brock Lesnar.

Ultimate Fighter Season 10 Outlook: The next season of the Ultimate Fighter will feature two rival coaches in Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson. It will also have well-known heavyweights: Roy Nelson, Wes Sims and Kimbo Slice. Is bringing in previously-established fighters the best business move? We'll take a look at the good and the bad of what we know about season 10.

Machida's Next Opponent Selected: Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has agreed to face Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida for the light heavyweight championship. Shogun was selected after Rampage (who was thought to be first in line) decided to coach The Ultimate Fighter opposite Rashad Evans.

TUF10 Coaches Revealed: Despite previous reports, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson will coach opposite Rashad Evans on the next season of the Ultimate Fighter. The two will face off some time in late 2009.

Rich vs. Wanderlei - Taking a closer look at the maint event of UFC 99. On June 13, Wanderlei Silva will face yet another top-ranked opponent in Rich Franklin. Wanderlei has had his share of setbacks in the past few years. Rich, despite no longer being a champion, is still a ticket-puncher enthusiast. Having said that, should Wanderlei still take the tough fights at this stage in his career?

Are we GLAAD that Dana White is gone? Dana White is well-known for his colorful language. Unfortunately for him, he said something that was offensive towards homosexuals. GLAAD has stepped in and taken Mr. White to task for what he said. Dana has received what you might call punishment for his actions. But did he really deserve it?

My Thoughts on Bobby Lashley: Bobby Lashley has made the big jump from WWE to MMA. Much like Brock Lesnar, he's got all the tools needed to get the job done. The question is: Is he going to be as successful as the current UFC heavyweight champion?

Karo Parisyan receives his punishment: Karo has been suspended for 9 months and fined $32,000. Also, his fight with Dong Hyun Kim has been ruled a no contest. (March 18, 2009)

Karo Parisyan tests positive for banned painkillers: The Heat is going to be on young Karo now that he's been caught using Oxymorphone, Hydrocodone, and Hydromorphone.

UFC releases 5 fighters: Eddie Sanchez, Christian Wellisch, Derek Downey, Luigi Fioravanti and Rich Clementi have recently received their walking papers in recent MMA news. Expect more wood to be sent to the chopping block.

George Sotiropolous Injured: Sotiropolous pulls out of his fight with Matt Grice at UFC Fight Night 17 due to a rib injury. He is replaced by Matt Veach. Fighters need to be more careful during training, as both Hermes Franca and Amir Sadollah will not be on the same show due to injuries.

Who's Next for Anderson Silva? Anderson Silva has cleaned out the best of the UFC’s middleweight division. Now more than ever it seems like a high profile light heavyweight bout is on the horizon. The question is: What fight makes the most sense for the unstoppable Spider?

Jorge Gurgel released by UFC, picked up by Strikeforce: After losing his last match at UFC 91 (a fight of the night with Aaron Riley) Gurgel has been given his walking papers. However it didn’t take long for him to find a new home as Strikeforce has already signed him. I guess a string of losses will get you fired from the UFC and being exciting will get you employed elsewhere!

Denis Kang to fight at UFC 93: Former PRIDE standout Denis Kang has verbally agreed to fight middleweight fighter Alan Belcher at UFC 93 in Ireland. Denis will be helping fellow Canadian Georges St. Pierre prepare for his fight against B.J. Penn, which is to take place at UFC 94. Hopefully Kang will be able to make an impact in the division needing fresh faces to challenge Anderson Silva.

Chris Leben Tests Positive: The former Ultimate Fighter contestant fails the ultimate drug test following his loss to Michael Bisping at UFC 89. This is going to have a major impact on his career if we look at past precedents.
