Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen

If Nate Marquardt loses this fight…I am just gonna snap. To have come this close to getting a much-anticipated title shot, only to lose to Captain Average, would be a tragedy.

If you’ve read any of Chael Sonnen’s recent interviews, you’ll know that he’s one of the best middleweights on the planet. And that Anderson Silva guy? He’s not as good as you think.

If however your mind is based in reality, you’ll know that Chael Sonnen doesn’t belong anywhere near a title shot. In fact, he’s damn lucky to get this opportunity. How he wound up being the number 3 contender in the UFC’s middleweight division is beyond me.

True, Sonnen did get a solid victory over Yushin Okami. That was surprising. I guess if that can happen, then anything is possible. But if things go as they “should” then Marquardt will win this fight in decisive fashion.

Nate is easily the more skilled striker. He’s also got proven knockout power, just ask Demain Maia. Nate is also the stronger of the two. That alone will make the difference in the grappling department. The only area they could be equal is wrestling. Therefore, Nate should employ an aggressive stand-up strategy. He’s doesn’t need to be deathly afraid of Chael’s takedowns.

As always, there’s a chance one man will make a fight-ending mistake. That can happen when the stakes are this high. However Nate has been in more high-profile bouts than Sonnen. It also appears that Sonnen is trash talking as a way to offset his fear of facing superior fighters.

Marquardt will have more confidence than Sonnen, which makes Nate that much more likely to be the victor.
