Shane Carwin Defeats Frank Mir
This match was extremely one-sided. Frank Mir just couldn’t get any offense in. What’s more, he ended up taking more damage than necessary. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. In order to get a dominant win, Shane Carwin employed a Lesnar-esque strategy. Basically, he did what Brock did to Frank, only standing up. In this case, Shane used double under-hooks to get Frank pinned up against the cage. Frank had no idea what kind of imminent danger he was in. Sucker. Shane didn’t want Dan “More Action” Miragliotta to pull them apart again. So, Carwin decided that he would give the crowd what they wanted – a vicious knockout. Those first few uppercuts did most of the damage needed to end the fight. What happened after that was all bonus material. It was funny hearing Joe yell, “it’s over!” because I was thinking the exact same thing. Then I realized – no, wait…it’s still going. Thankfully, Dan stopped the match before Frank’s head had been completely turned to mush. Dan must have thought Frank needed humbling more than I did…that’s scary. Anyway, Brock came in to hype his next title defense. He was classier than usual. Of course, he was still met with a thunderous chorus of boos. Some guys just can’t win. It will be an exciting contest, as both guys have huge power in their fists. Plus, Carwin’s fights always end in the first round. When you combine that with Lesnar’s aggression and dubious striking defense, you’ve got a crowd-pleaser on your hands. It should be Lesnar’s toughest fight yet, as he won’t have the ability to manhandle his opponent on the ground.
