Stephan Bonnar vs. Jon Jones: Comeback or Upset?
This could be considered a Stephan Bonnar showcase fight since he’s the more experienced (and therefore more marketable) UFC fighter. He’s still got a bit of cache left from his first outing with Forrest Griffin but doesn’t have the same level of charisma. It’s easy to overlook Bonnar, especially when you compare him with Griffin. Forrest has climbed to the top of the mountain while Bonnar’s career was derailed by losses and a steroid suspension. Stephan has done well in his comeback fights from said suspension but has been on the shelf due to injury. So, it’s easy to say that this fight is designed to help him boost his confidence. Except... Jones is known as an explosive fighter with lots of potential. He’s a virtual unknown in the UFC, which means he has lots to gain and nothing to lose. This is a tricky situation for Stephan in that a win is expected going against a guy like Jones at this point in his career. He could be primed for another UFC Upset. Despite all that, Stephan should have enough tools to win the fight. He might take some punishment while doing it but we all know he’s good at that anyway. All that training at Xtreme Couture should pay off. Randy and Forrest have probably been getting him ready while taking out their own frustrations in the process. Next Fight: Parisyan vs. Kim
