Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva
For over two months, millions of people watched Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson argue. You could see there was legitimate heat between the two superstars. Their growing animosity made you want to see them fight in the octagon. Then, the UFC put Rashad Evans against some random Brazillian dude. In all fairness, Thiago Silva is a serious threat in the light heavyweight division. However this is the first time he’s headlined a Pay-Per-View. After coming off the epic title fight between BJ Penn and Diego Sanchez (which was preceded by an intriguing fight with cocky Frank Mir and angry Cheick Kongo) this makeshift main event seems totally irrelevant. When your fans don't care about who wins the main event, your company is in trouble. These pricey shows rely on customer enthusiasm. Why buy this one when there's going to be another UFC event two weeks from now? This fight is a huge letdown because there’s no built in back-story. There’s no good vs. evil dynamic. Plus, both men are coming off of losses…to the same fighter. At first, that seems intriguing. But when you think about it some more, you realize – pretty much everyone has lost to Machida. The sad thing is this SHOULD be an exciting match-up. Both men are proven knockout artists. Rashad is famous for his KO of Chuck Liddell. Thiago Silva would rather jump out of a car then take a step back in the octagon. So, hope and pray that Rashad doesn’t go back to his wrestling roots. Cross your fingers that Thiago Silva doesn’t try to use his black belt level submission skills. Why? Because if someone loses their head in this match, it just might give this event some buzz. Maybe.
