Wanderlei Silva Defeats Michael Bisping
On this night, we were treated to seeing a new and improved version of Wanderlei Silva. Granted, the changes were all cosmetic. I am only partly referring to his new face. I’m sure he appreciated the ability to breathe more and bleed less. His tactics have received a touch-up as well. He’s throwing in a few leg kicks now. He’s also using a bit more head movement. You can tell he’s aware of how costly his old strategy was. Despite all that…he’s still the old Wanderlei at heart. He loves to throw bombs. He’ll crank on any submission opportunity he gets. He doesn’t like going to the judges…and we wouldn’t want it any other way. There’s no doubt that Michael Bisping didn’t want to go to a decision either. However he didn’t do anything to finish the fight. At the end of the second round, Silva locked in a tight guillotine. Sadly, he pulled back as opposed to smothering him with his chest. Thanks to Joe Rogan for telling us how to use an arm-in guillotine. At the end of the third round, Bisping was almost KO’d. It was great seeing him so pissy after the round ended. He didn’t want to admit he was almost put to sleep. Once again, Bisping’s jab-to-a-decision strategy doesn’t work out. In all fairness, he almost won the fight. In some ways, he matches up well with an old brawler like Wanderlei. The problem is, Bisping’s opponents feel emboldened by his punches. Yes Michael’s strikes cause pain but they don’t end fights. Therefore, a fighter like Silva (or Dan Henderson) can wade in for the kill knowing he’ll throw the harder punch.
